As the Edmonton Oilers gear up for the highly anticipated March 7th trade deadline, Edmonton Oilers insider Jim Matheson has sparked an intriguing conversation in Oil Country, suggesting Anaheim Ducks defenceman Jacob Trouba as an ideal trade target.

The Edmonton Oilers are currently riding a four game losing streak, and fans are almost ready to hit the panic button.
That said, the lack of grit on the Edmonton Oilers blue-line has been a focal point for analysts around the league, and insider Jim Matheson claims to have the answer.

Jim Matheson suggests Jacob Trouba as a potential fit

Insider Jim Matheson is no stranger to posting bold ideas on social media, but his latest one might actually have some merit.
If Oilers want top 4 D in trade they should be aiming for right-shot Jake Trouba if Ducks would eat half his $8m AAV. He has another year after this one. He is nasty piece of business they need as defender, if Trouba would be willing to waive his no-trade to come here.

It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers have been in the market for a top-four right hand shot defenceman, and Jacob Trouba fits the bill perfectly.
Additionally, fans will will remember when New York Rangers GM Chris Drury announced a fire sale back in November, naming Chris Kreider and ex-captain Jacob Trouba as available for trade.
While Jacob Trouba finally found a mutually beneficial deal by signing with the Anaheim Ducks, one can only assume the idea of joining a Stanley Cup Calibre team would be an enticing option.
While signing a veteran blue-liner like Jacob Trouba sounds like an intriguing option, his personal life adds a few complexities to the equation.
Trouba's personal situation is a huge factor keeping him from being traded. When Trouba signed his seven-year, $56 million contract in 2019 with the blue shirts, it included a five-year no-movement clause that would end when his wife, Kelly Tyson-Trouba, completed her residency at a New York hospital.
Her residency was deferred for a year and is now scheduled to end on July 1, 2025.
Now that Trouba and his wife have finally agreed on California as a suitable destination, it's highly unlikely that he would agree to relocate again.
Could GM Stan Bowman work his magic? Time will tell.
