The Edmonton Oilers made a splash in the trade market today to acquire forward Trent Frederic from the Boston Bruins, and are expected to swing another trade for a defenceman before the trade deadline.
GM Stan Bowman has expressed a need for a depth left shot defenceman earlier this season, but perhaps the Oilers aim higher.
Oilers insider reveals team's next move after Trent Frederic trade
After the Trent Frederic trade, Oilers insider Bob Stauffer joined the What Chaos Show and confirmed that Edmonton will make at least one more move to acquire a defenceman.
»I don't think for a second that Stan Bowman is done.
If Edmonton makes another trade, I think it's going to be for a defenseman. So I do think their tandem is going to be Skinner and Pickard.»
»Our top three lefties have been excellent between Ekholm, Kulak and Nurse. But I think underneath that, if one of them were to get injured, then yeah, we don't have that experienced depth on the left side. So that's one area to look at.

The lower target could change depending on their assessment of John Klingberg handling top 4 playoff minutes, but a depth addition looks most likely.
