The Oilers officially signed Travis Dermott after his tryout offer, and now he's undertaking a major personal task that proves he'll stay with Edmonton.

According to Daniel Nugent-Bowman of the Athletic, Dermott is moving his wife and kids to a home in Edmonton - not Bakersfield California with the Oilers AHL team. It may be a great sign that he'll stay on the NHL roster, but unfortunately, Josh Brown did the same thing.

He reported that Dermott has signed a two-way, one-year deal that's worth $775,000. Dermott will round out the Oilers defence corps as a depth player, as general manager Stan Bowman and head coach Chris Knoblauch put the finishing touches on their roster.

Dermott has shown the coaching staff that he was determined to land a spot with the Oilers as he had been signed to a PTO just days earlier. His quality of play surpassed several Oilers including Josh brown who had signed a three-year deal during the summer worth $1 million per season. Dermott will give their bottom 3 more experience especially with the penalty kill.

The 27-year-old defenseman has been in the NHL nearly ten years after being drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, second round, 34th overall. Dermott had played on the Erie Otters at the same time as McDavid, Connor Brown and Kris Knoblauch. He will bring a sense of familiarity to those men and show that he would like to remain long term. Aside the Leafs, he had played for the Vancouver Canucks and the Arizona Coyotes.

It's expected that Dermott will remain with the Oilers the entire year and that the two-way portion of the contract is to help move players around and keep contract flexibility.

With Dermott signed and Evander Kane now on long term injury reserve the Oilers are all ready to start their season as they face off against the Winnipeg Jets on October 8th. Game time will be 10:00pm Eastern.
