The Bruins and the Panthers have become heated rivals over their playoff matchups in the last few years, and soon after the Panthers raised the banner for their Stanley Cup, the Bruins started targeting Matthew Tkachuk. Tkachuk himself tried to initiate several fights, but never accepted it when it was time to drop the gloves. After the game, Bruins forward Trent Frederic said he was disrespecting the game of hockey by not facing the music.
Oilers fans are no strangers to seeing Matthew Tkachuk turtle and hide from a fight that he started, and he's back to the antics in the very first game. Notably at one point, Nikita Zadorov grabbed Tkachuk by the collar which sent him falling down, and started a scrum. While the rest of his teammates got tangled up with Bruins, Tkachuk was basically just talking with David Pastrnak. Last night's game was incredibly heated directly from puck drop.
The game between the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins was questionable to even happen. An extremely strong hurricane is about to make landfall in Florida, and while the Panthers arena wouldn't be on the forefront, the NHL considered cancelling the game for safety reasons.
It's totally against hockey code to run away and turtle from a right that a player initiated, but it's par the course for Matthew Tkachuk. We'll have to see if sometime through this year a player grabs Tkachuk and truly doesn't let him get away - he certainly made some rivals in last year's playoffs.
