It was revealed yesterday by Jason Gregor of the Jason Gregor show that Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane has resumed skating over the past two days and is running around 60% of good health.

Kane has been away from the game since last June after he was shut down due due to major injuries and several surgeries that were focused on his abdomen and his knee.

Gregor also feels that it will take some time for Kane to get back into game shape even though his skating appears to be well ahead of schedule.
It was quite apparent during last year's season that Kane was struggling with some sort of injury that was not revealed until the summer.
With his absence, the Oilers have missed his physical side of his game as he is well known for throwing his body and giving thunderous checks that sent his opponents into the wall.

Oilers face a choice as NHL trade deadline approaches

The Oilers face a choice when it comes to Kane as he holds one year remaining on his salary of $5.125 million next year.
For the first 2 1/2 years of his contract, he had a no movement clause but now it will change starting on March 1st into a modified no trade which will hold 16 teams on an approved list.
If the Oilers were to move Kane, it would free up significant amounts of money and help strengthen other parts of the team as the Oilers prepare for the stretch run and another attempt to get to the Stanley Cup finals.
On the other hand, the Oilers could keep Kane and use his services to help strengthen the Oilers anyway and give them the physical presence they need.
Considering he has an aging body and only one year remaining on his deal, it's possible general manager Stan Bowman may look at all options considering the no movement clause will be lifted.
In the meantime, Kane will continue his rehab and likely have a stint with the Bakersfield condors as he will need conditioning to prepare for his return to the NHL.
