The Edmonton Oilers continued to prepare for the restart of the NHL season and the upcoming NHL trade deadline and appears to be targeting a familiar face in Seattle Kraken forward Jordan Eberle.
Allan Mitchell Of the Athletic thinks that this would be a perfect fit for both Eberle and the Oilers as he is a familiar face and would give the team more scoring as they prepare for the stretch run of the season.
Eberle's return would be a different version of himself
the Oilers could target Seattle captain Jordan Eberle He's a perfect fit for an organization that needs a skilled winger who can score goals and negotiate the difficult routes required to get into high-scoring areas. Allan Mitchell
Eberle, would be an older, more seasoned pro than he was when he left the Oilers back in 2017.
He became a New York Islanders in 2017 and remained with the organization for four seasons until he was selected in the expansion draft by the Seattle Seattle in 2021.
Mitchell also feels that it would likely cost the Oilers a first-round draft pick in order to retain Eberle's services as the going rate has been a first round pick for several players in the last number of trades.
Eberle is the Kraken captain, so the cost will be significant. A first-round pick (2026 is the earliest Oilers pick available) plus another asset might get it done, but the Kraken's ask probably begins with Savoie. Bowman is unlikely to surrender the team's top prospect. It's worth an aggressive negotiation.
Savoie would likely not be available for trade
The Oilers had recalled
Matthew Savoie from the Bakersfield condors recently as they attempt to evaluate his talents and how he meshes with the team.
It's unlikely that he would become available for trade to the Kraken and for Eberle and the Oilers would likely offer other players or more draft picks to get a deal done.
Eberle Holds one year remaining on his contract of a two-year deal worth $9.5 million.
His cap hit his $4.75 million and it's certainly possible that the Kraken would be willing to hold some of his salary back in order to make a deal sweeter.
It's safe to say that general manager Stan Bowman will be busy over the next number of weeks and perhaps he can craft a deal to bring Eberle home and perhaps give him a chance to win a Stanley Cup.
