Oilers forward Corey Perry revealed that he requested to wear number 94 when he joined the team, but it was denied by the organization.

That number has not been retired, and many are questioning why he wasn't allowed to keep his number that he's had since his junior days and when he played for the Montreal Canadiens.

Oilers may be keeping number 94 for another great NHLer

While many would question the decision by the Oilers not to give him #94 considering his veteran presence and being one of the icons in the league history, it's likely the Oilers are saving number 94 to be retired for Oilers great Ryan Smyth.
I couldn't wear 94, which I wore in junior and in Montreal. That's a number I always had in the back of my mind when I was younger. So, I split them down the middle. That's the reason why it's 90. It just seemed fitting.
