American NHL Player backs Canadians booing USA anthem at 4 Nations Faceoff
The NHL's return to International hockey is being met with interesting times as Canadian fans routinely boo the USA's national anthem, and one anonymous American player is siding with Canadians.
International hockey is enough to get fans riled up, and the booing of the national anthem has ignited debate from casual fans everywhere.
Hockey fans debate booing of national anthem, one American player opens his eyes to Canadians
Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects shared a conversation with an anonymous American player, who was uncomfortable with the booing, but seemed to reflect and understand why Canadians are reacting.
Yeah, when you look it at from that side, I wouldn't like another country threatening to swallow up mine (country). Especially one as big as the US. Would probably do more than boo an anthem..."
It's commendable on Robinson for asking the American player the important follow-up question to receive a thoughtful response.
Previously, American players asked about the ordeal have opposed the anthem booing as disrespectful, or even cringeworthy.
Despite PA announcers in Montreal asking fans to restrain from booing during the anthems, fans have continued on during this short tournament and in previous NHL games. However, with the background of international hockey, it has significantly more weight.
Tomorrow night in Montreal, Team Canada will play Team USA in what will be a uniquely fierce game between the tournament's two best teams.
There won't ever be agreement on the debates surrounding the anthem boos, but one thing is for sure - tomorrow night's game will be a must watch event for any hockey fan.
