Long Time National Player Tragically Passes Away At The Age of 37
The hockey world feels nearly cursed as a result of the amount of passings this offseason, including Hall of Famers, veteran players, and prospects who are potential stars in the making.
According to a statement from the IIHF, Aditya Rama Putra, 37, died away unexpectedly on Thursday (International Ice Hockey Federation). The cause of death has not been revealed to the public.
Putra has served his nation and helped put it on the hockey map since the Indonesian National Ice Hockey team was founded in 2016. This includes taking part in competitions like the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia and the 2017 Asian Winter Games.
The IIHF has released the following statement:
In a statement, the IIHF said: "Rama left a legacy of commitment and determination to become a better player. He was also an idol for the younger generation. A lot of young kids would come to the rink just to have an opportunity to watch him and the team practice, so they can learn how to be like him, who is considered as one of the best player Indonesia has ever had. His character that full of fun and his humble personality would always be something to be missed from the whole organization and anyone who had the opportunity to know him."
Putra was only a few weeks away from reporting to his teammates for training camp in preparation for the IIHF World Championship, which will occur this spring.
We send prayers and condolences to Putra's friends, family, and anyone affected by this loss.
