Prior to the start of the 2022-2023 playoffs, Ryan O'Reilly was brought on as a member of the 2022-2023 Toronto Maple Leafs team who was supposed to take the team deep into the postseason.

Since the Maple Leafs are O'Reilly's hometown team, it was expected that he would re-sign with Toronto, but once the postseason hit, it became clear that he was exploring free agency once the season ended.

Ryan O'Reilly admits that the "spotlight" in Toronto contributed to his departure to Nashville in free agency 👀

In the end, O'Reilly ended up signing with Nashville, and would later claim that it was the pressure of Toronto which was too much for him to deal with during his time there, which led him to move on from Toronto.

According to him, Nashville is a team that is destined for the playoffs, and that once a 3C in Toronto, Nashville will now become a 1C in Nashville, as the team has suffered a number of injuries and exits recently.
