It seems that the Edmonton Oilers have discovered a player who demonstrates strong offensive potential despite being undrafted.
During their Young Stars game against the Winnipeg Jets, the Oilers extended an invitation to Jake Sloan of the Tri-City Americans in the WHL to join their squad and assess his abilities. In that game, he managed to score two goals, each showcasing a different style of play.
Sloan, a 19-year-old forward born in Leduc, AB, has played four seasons with the Tri-City Americans. In his last season (2022-2023), he played 58 games, scoring twenty goals with 35 assists for a total of 55 points and accumulated 35 penalty minutes. He also had a plus-minus rating of +7.
The game also highlighted Beau Akey, who currently plays for the Barrie Colts in the OHL. He was selected by the Oilers in the second round of the 2023 entry draft, 56th overall.
Akey, a native of Waterloo, ON, played 66 games last year for the Colts, scoring eleven goals with 36 assists, totalling 47 points, and boasting an impressive plus-minus rating of +39.
the future looks promising for the Oilers and their prospects, but only time will tell if these players will have a significant impact on the team. We will also need to wait and see if General Manager Ken Holland takes a closer look at Jake Sloan.
The Oilers rookies beat the Jets rookies 3-1.
