Brock Boeser has long been a fan favourite of the Vancouver Canucks, but it seems GM Patrick Allvin is playing hardball in contract extension talks.

On a recent SportsCentre hit it was explained that the Canucks won't begin contract talks this offseason, and is waiting to see how his performance plays out this year.

The Canucks have now locked up their other young core players to long term deals, and may need to play hardball with Boeser to be able to keep him on the roster. He's currently being paid $6.65M for the final year of his contract, and with the cap increasing, could command a significant increase in salary. The Canucks only have $1M of cap space currently, so adding Boeser long term could be a crunch.

In his age 27 season last year, Boeser reached new career offensive highs with 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games. He's always proven to be a reliable scorer in his career outside of one down year in 2022-23, and if he can repeat the success of last season, he could earn a raise to near $10M at least.

Under coach Rick Tocchet, the Vancouver Canucks seem to have finally been able to unlock the true potential of their young stars, and finally put together a competent roster to make the playoffs. They've lost significant rental players in free agency, but the Canucks will surely be back in the playoffs next season.
