Connor McDavid has firm answer when asked about his contract plans
While speaking to the media after an informal practice today, McDavid told reporters he'd answer this question only once, and then said he wasn't worried about it at all.
It's something that I'm not gonna worry about, or really deal with. It's a question I'll answer once . . . I'm worried about this year, I'm worried about being ready for the season, both myself personally and the group. That's where my focus is at, it's not on anything else. That stuff takes care of itself. It's not something that I'm worried about.
McDavid's total lack of worry about the biggest contract in NHL history shows total confidence in his agent to strike a deal with the Edmonton Oilers. Many prominent NHL insiders have claimed that McDavid and Draisaitl want to play together and win together in Edmonton, and after Draisaitl re-signed, it's guaranteed that McDavid will too. Oilers President Jeff Jackson even used to be McDavid's agent, and essentially confirmed that him and Draisaitl are a package deal.
With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl signed for the primes of their careers, the Edmonton Oilers will be a cup contending team for the foreseeable future.
At the end of the interview, McDavid spoke about how much he enjoys living in Edmonton - and joked that the one thing he doesn't love is the construction.
All signs point to Connor McDavid re-signing early next offseason to become an Edmonton Oiler for life, and try to bring multiple Stanley Cups back to the city. Edmonton fans should be pumped for the back half of the McDavid era.
