The Florida Panthers organization announced that they will be postponing their Champions Ring ceremony as newly formed Hurricane Milton is threatening the state of Florida.
State officials have placed Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade County under a state of emergency as the growing hurricane takes dead aim at the Sunshine State. President and CEO Matt Caldwell spoke out about the news and what the organization will do in terms of opening night.
«As this event would take resources from first responders and service providers, we have made the tough decision to cancel our Champions Ring Ceremony out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all involved. We will instead distribute our championship rings privately,» said President and CEO Matt Caldwell. «Along with state and local authorities, we are closely monitoring the situation. As of now, Opening Night vs. Boston is scheduled to proceed as intended and we will continue preparing our arena and surrounding areas to safely welcome guests for Opening Night.»
The organization announced that fans can expect a full refund for their donation at their point of purchase.
It's been a tough hurricane season for the state as this will be the third named storm to take aim and likely make landfall. All eyes will be on the track of this storm as it could affect either the Tampa Bay area where it could make a direct impact with Amalie Arena and the Lightning, or it could head further south which could put it straight in the crosshairs of Sunrise Florida.
The Panthers opening night will take place on Tuesday October 8th when the Boston Bruins fly into town for another rematch.
