The Edmonton Oilers kicked off the NHL trade deadline season with the first significant roster addition by signing free agent Corey Perry after his contract was terminated in Chicago. The Oilers are now riding high with Perry's addition and a 16 game win streak, they still aren't done adding to the team. According to a new report from NHL insider Frank Seravalli yesterday, the Oilers are looking to reunite Corey Perry with an old Stanley cup winning teammate of his.

Along with several other names, the Oilers front office is rumoured to be pursuing Pat Maroon of the Minnesota Wild.

Nicknamed Big Rig, Maroon previously played a stint with the Oilers from 2015-2018 before going on to win the Stanley Cup three times, once with St.Louis and twice with Tampa Bay. In his time with the Lightning, Maroon played a consistent fourth line with Perry that proved to be extremely effective in Tampa's long playoff runs. In the bottom six, both players have size and can play a punishing physical game, while still bringing a big of a scoring touch with Perry. Maroon specifically brings more of an enforcer role.

In 49 games with the Wild this year, Maroon has only 4 goals and 16 points. However, he has just this year left remaining on his contract for an affordable $1M cap hit, and will be relatively cheap to acquire in trade. Really, Maroon would potentially become a platoon player for the Oilers and come in and out of the lineup on the fourth line, as he's likely not displacing one of Connor Brown, Mattias Janmark, or Sam Gagner.
