Stuart Skinner going back to an old ritual to find success again
To this point through the season, Stuart Skinner has been inconsistent. At times, he's shown flashes of his full potential as a quality starting goalie, but other times has clearly cost the team wins with poor performances in net.
Even during the Oilers' recent eight game winning streak, Skinner had some rocky starts, and he eventually cost the team a win by melting down in the third period against Tampa Bay. Back in the crease tonight, Skinner is now going back to an old ritual to try to find his confidence again.
Starting tonight, Skinner will be wearing the same helmet he wore in his rookie year last season, where we won 29 games with a 2.73 GAA and .914 save percentage.
Hopefully, going back to his old mask can give Skinner the confidence he felt when he had that incredible success last year, and can start to provide some stability in the Oilers' net. They'll be tested tonight, playing the red-hot New York Islanders on the road.
