In a recent move, the Edmonton Oilers opted to waive Jack Campbell, reassigning him to the AHL, and brought up Calvin Pickard to fill the void. This decision, however, is viewed as a temporary measure as GM Ken Holland continues his search for the right moves to keep the Oilers competitive.

Friedman Reveals Trade Talks

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman raised eyebrows with his recent alert about a potential trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers. The talks seem to revolve around a deal for veteran goaltender Jake Allen.

"[The Oilers], they spoke to Montreal, who do not need a goalie in return, about the possibility of trading Jake Allen. [...]"

This revelation has sparked discussions between Kent Hughes and Ken Holland, exploring the prospect of bringing in Allen to fortify the goaltending position.

In addition to Allen, Friedman mentioned Juuse Saros and Jordan Binnington as potential targets for the Oilers. Currently, Saros and Binnington appear to be the most feasible options.

Having guarded the Montreal crease for the past three seasons, Allen has started the current season with a notable .910 save percentage, showcasing a considerable improvement over Jack Campbell. In six games this season, Allen boasts a 3-2-1 record and won a cup with the St.Louis Blues.

As the Oilers navigate the goaltending landscape, the team is actively considering these options to enhance their performance. The quest for a reliable netminder continues, and the trade talks with Montreal add an intriguing element to the Oilers' strategy.
