Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman spoke with Jason Gregor and Terry Ryan On the Jason Gregor show and laid out his vision to why he traded for Ty Emberson from the San Jose Sharks.

Gregor posed the question why Bowman shows to trade for Emberson who had direct ties with head coach Kris Knoblauch when both he and Knoblauch were with the Hartford Wolf Pack who the AHL affiliate for the New York Rangers are. Bowman broke down how the trade unfolded, and he relied heavily on Knoblauch and their scouts to see how he can craft his deal.

I would say it was a collaboration. I talked to Kris quite a few times about Emberson, as well as our scouts, and he was also a player I was pretty familiar with just from scouting with the U.S. program and at Wisconsin. I feel like I'd seen him play a lot of hockey coming up and growing up. There was a lot to like about him as a player and he hadn't quite totally made it in the NHL yet.

It was clear that Knoblauch's experience with him as his head coach in Hartford was the deciding factor in bringing him into the Oilers organization. He explained that Knoblauch is a big fan on the way he plays and that he's an extremely confident player. He also expressed how he's 24 years old and has plenty of years left to show what he's made of.

I think last year was his first real opportunity. I think everyone weighed in and it was nice to know that Kris had that experience coaching him and although it was the American League, Kris was a big fan. He is a big fan of the way Ty plays and he was very confident that he could be a nice addition to our team. We spent time talking to people, watching his games, and trying to see where we thought he could fit in. But he's got a really nice skill set, and I think the other thing I like about him is that he's in that age range. He's a 24-year-old and we haven't seen his best days yet. I think he's coming into his own.

It appeared for the last several weeks that a trade was imminent, and Cody Ceci's name was mentioned several times as the player to be leaving the Oilers. He has value that he offered for the Oilers and with the San Jose Sharks in their rebuild, Ceci will become a main focal point to their defence. The Oilers also open $3,000,000 worth of cap space which is valuable in a win now mode.

The Oilers have been doing some solid work over the past couple of months as they have reconfigured their lineup and have removed an added numerous players and acquired draft picks. Now with training camp set to begin tomorrow, Oilers fans will have to wait and see how the team unfolds and how they can gel together.
