NHL insider Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff thinks that DeAngelo would be helpful to the Oilers as he would come at a low cost and would enjoy going to the Oilers as the team is in a win now mode and almost won the Stanley Cup last year.
Dave Staples agreed with Seravalli making case that he is still in his prime and he has been close to being a 40-point player. DeAngelo was drafted in 2014 by the Tampa Bay Lightning, first round 19th pick overall. He has played for four NHL organizations which includes the Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Philadelphia Flyers.
His value would certainly be at a lower standing as he played 31 games for the Hurricanes last year, scoring three goals with eight assists for 11 points and was a - 7. His best season was with the Rangers in 2019-2020 when he played 68 games and had 53 points was a + 12 of 19 minutes and ice time.
DeAngelo has been looking for a team that he can find his game again and if the Oilers chose to sign him putting him under assistant coach Paul Coffey could do wonders for his game and become a viable player who could augment their defense even more.
With training camp closing several weeks away, the oilers may seek out a contract or even a PTO to see if he is worth signing.
