The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for one of the most important trade deadlines in franchise history, and forward Viktor Arvidsson has landed himself in the hot-seat as GM Stan Bowman looks to accrue as much cap space as possible.

Viktor Arvidsson emerging as likely trade candidate

As the Edmonton Oilers gear up for the home stretch of the regular season, it's looking increasingly possible that Viktor Arvidsson could be making his way out of town to clear cap space for a major acquisition.
When Jeff Jackson initially acquired Viktor Arvidsson during the NHL offseason, fans were elated, as the Edmonton Oilers appeared to be an unstoppable offensive on all fronts.
Fast forward to the new year, the Viktor Arvidsson experiment simply hasn't worked out. Earlier this year, Arvidsson was called out for having the worst year of his career.
While Viktor Arvidsson has shown fans glimpses of his scoring prowess throughout the season, consistency has been an issue.
Although it's important to note Viktor Arvidsson's tenure with the Oilers has been plagued with injuries, the Swedish forward hasn't provided the Oilers with the desired offensive output to secure his place on Oilers top-six.
Oilers could trade Viktor Arvidsson as salary cap dump
"I think if the Oilers really want to make a move and Kane comes back, you can ship Arvidsson out and just put Kane in the lineup. And Kane's a better player than Arvidsson right now."

-Oilers Nation

With Evander Kane set to return to the lineup for the Oilers postseason push, GM Stan Bowman has to make a tough decision regarding Viktor Arvidsson's status on the team.
Kane is reportedly near 60% while skating, meaning that he could be returning before the playoffs begin.
Shedding Arvidsson's current $4M cap hit would clear a bunch of room for the Oilers to address their back-end needs, positioning them to acquire a top-four defenceman.
As the Edmonton Oilers inch closer to the NHL trade deadline, it should be interesting to see what happens to Viktor Arvidsson.
