Pittsburgh Penguins fans could be looking at an end of an era here. The penguins just lost another upset game in overtime to the New York Islanders 5-4. Although getting a point, the team is not where they want to be in the standings. Sitting 8 points out of the wildcard 2 spot, Dubas is forced to make some moves for next season.

It is being said that Dubas has been talking around the league in the last couple of days, and is listening in on offers from the majority of the roster except for the core group.

The evident players that would be locked up in Pittsburgh would be Kris Letang, Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin. But as we know Jake Guentzel, Erik Karlsson, and Tristan Jarry could definitely be in the trade talks.

Jake Guentzel is expected to be moved, unless Dubas views him as «the core group», which is quite unlikely right now. Teams like the Oilers, Redwings, Avalanche, and Islanders. Teams that are looking for an extra kick in their roster going into the post season.

Dubas is now realising he most likely made a big mistake going for high reputation defenceman, Erik Karlsson. The Penguins are paying him $10 million a year, for a whole lot of nothing. The Sharks retained $1.5 million of his annual salary. With Karlsson's stat line being mid, his injury proneness, and his bold contract, it may be a difficult piece to sell.
