In their post trade deadline episode, 32 Thoughts Podcaster Elliotte Friedman revealed at least one team that showed interest in acquiring Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers.

Many rumors swirled around the Oilers just prior to the deadline that they were prepared to trade Evander Kane to open up cap space as he holds a $5.125 million cap hit.
The team ended up using his long-term injury reserve after deciding to put him in that category as he was not able to play this regular season.

Disagreements arose between Kane and Oilers over medical
issues

Freidman also revealed that there was a disagreement around the medical status of Kane as the power forward wanted to play this regular season, but the Oilers disagreed.
After the team put him on long term injury reserve, the Oilers moved forward with some of their trades which included defenseman Jake Walman from San Jose Sharks and Trent Frederic formerly of the Boston Bruins.
Kane has been in recovery since having multiple surgeries including abdominal surgery prior to the season beginning and unexpected knee surgery must in a month and a half ago which put his recovery time back even further.

Oilers hope Kane will be playoff ready

Despite making the attempt to trade Kane, the Oilers are looking forward to his return as the power forward will give a physical edge for the Oilers when the playoffs begin and hope that his scoring touch will resume.
During his last season in 2023-2024, he had played 77 games scoring 24 goals with 20 assists for 44 points and had 85 penalty minutes. This total was better than his last two seasons prior with the Oilers and he was playing injured.
Oilers Head coach Kris Knoblauch along with general manager Stan Bowman have high hopes that Cain will return to form hand would be considered another addition even though the Oilers have him in their ranks.
The Oilers will be back on the road out east where they will take on the Buffalo Sabres on March 10th at 7:00 PM eastern.
