According to a report by Alan Mitchell, who is also known as Lowetide for The Athletic, the Edmonton Oilers might be poised to make a trade within the next 24 hours. The speculation is that the Oilers would seek to move a player reminiscent of Klim Kostin for the Samorukov deal.
It's understood that this potential move is aimed at opening up cap
space, as the Oilers are currently tight against the cap. Lowetide has not mentioned who the candidate to be moved would be if a trade were to happen, but one could speculate that a player such as Raphael Lavoie, who seems unable to crack the lineup but is getting older, could be a candidate.
Another player struggling to make the lineup is the highly touted defensive prospect Philip Broberg. Some believe he could be a trade candidate as the Oilers look to make a deep playoff run.
However, it's worth noting that he might be a more likely candidate in March than in September, as he has one year left on his contract at $863,333 before becoming a restricted free agent next year.
The Oilers also have younger players pushing for a roster spot in the next season or two, including Xavier Bourgault and recently signed forward Brady Stonehouse.
It remains as to what will happen; however, Lowetide has been accurate with his predictions in the past, and a trade could be imminent.
