Junior hockey, an arena intended for players to enjoy themselves while prioritizing safety, was recently shaken by a disturbing incident in London, Ontario.

The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) wasted no time in taking action, imposing a two-year suspension on team owner Paul Duarte following the exposure of multiple issues.

The OHF emphasized the crucial role of owners in upholding integrity and ensuring an inclusive and secure environment for all participants.

During the investigation, it came to light that Duarte had allegedly offered a $100 reward for a bounty on an opposing player from a rival teaman act that directly contradicts the fundamental values of sportsmanship.

Sources told The London Free Press a bounty was allegedly offered for a London player to target a skater on the Komoka Kings in the fall of 2021... The amount of the bounty was $100.

Such abhorrent behavior demands a more severe penalty than the current two-year suspension, as it tarnishes the reputation of junior hockey.

The community must unite in condemning these actions and advocating for meaningful change to safeguard the sport's core principles.
