The Flames signed Mark Pysyk to a one year, two-way deal. Currently playing with the Penguins AHL affiliate on a minor league deal, Pysyk is likely hoping there's more room for opportunities with the Flames. Still with a two way contract however, the Flames could send him to the minors if his play isn't up to standard.
Pysyk, now 31 years old, was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft. The Calgary Flames will be the fourth team over 11 year professional career, also spending time with the Sabres, Panthers, and Stars. Over that time, he's managed to play in 521 games, recording 28 goals and 104 points. At times over his career, with the Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers, Pysyk has even been used as a forward.
Signing Pysyk gives the Flames added depth to their organization, which could soon be tested if the team makes another trade from its defence. Currently, Chris Tanev is being floated in trade rumours, being connected to the Maple Leafs and Stars. Now with this added depth, the Flames will feel more comfortable re-tooling their roster.
