The Oilers traded former first round draft pick Xavier Bourgault to acquire Jarventie in the offseason, moving on from the declining Oilers prospect for a new option.
According to a new interview from Condors coach Colin Chaulk, Jarventie is set to have surgery this week and will likely be shut down for the rest of the season.
The Oilers seemingly pulled the trigger on the Bourgault deal at the right time. In 35 games with the Senators AHL team this season, the former Oilers first round pick has only 5 goals and 13 points.
On the flip side, Jarventie still had plenty of promise coming to the Oilers organization this season. The Finnish forward scored 9 goals and 20 points in 22 AHL AHL last season, and was even called up for 7 NHL games with Ottawa.
At 6'2 and 22 years old and already with a history of offensive production in the AHL, there's still lots of promise for Jarventie - if not for this year's catastrophic injuries.
It's incredibly unfortunate that Jarventie was limited to only 2 games with the Oilers organization this season. Had he spent the year developing, there could've been a chance he was called up in-season, or primed for a run at making the team out of training camp next year.
Hopefully Jarventie recovers well from this surgery, and is able to train during the offseason to make the most of the next year.
