The Edmonton Oilers are in dire need of support on their defense, but the team's general manager, Ken Holland, must also ensure that they stay within their salary cap. ESPN's Greg Wyshynski recently proposed a potential trade scenario wherein the Florida Panthers would acquire a top defensive player in exchange for a pick received from the Edmonton Oilers.

According to the proposal, the Oilers would trade their first-round pick for Brandon Montour and send Kailer Yamamoto along with the pick to make the cap work.
Meanwhile, Florida would trade the first-round pick and Eetu Loustarinen for Erik Karlsson.
While the proposition seems feasible, there remains the question of whether or not the San Jose Sharks would request Anton Lundell as part of the deal.
If so, Wyshynski recommends that the Oilers decline the offer.
Overall, this trade could prove beneficial for the Oilers, as it would bolster their defense while also enabling them to manage their finances better.
Montour had a monster of a season putting up 73 points and was a vital part of the Panthers' playoff run.
