Once the draft passes, the next date to circle is July 1st. It's when NHL teams are allowed to talk to unrestricted free agents to offer them unprecedented riches to lure them to play for their team. One player in question is former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Connor Brown.
Brown's story is interesting because he was a linemate with Connor McDavid when both were playing for the Erie Otters.
Brown sat down for an interview with Luke Gazdic and asked a question whether he would consider signing with the Oilers this offseason to reunite himself with his former teammate.
Last season, spending time with the Washington Capitals Brown, suffered an injury that kept him out of the lineup for some time. He also spent some time with the Ottawa Senators after being moved from the Leafs.
One of the intangibles of Brown is his foot speed, he shows a lot of tenacity and grit that the Oilers could use on their bottom 6. It's expected that Brown would not command a salary of over $3 million like he did last year and that the Oilers could probably pick him up for around 1.5 million.
We will need to see if he chooses the Oilers or wants to go elsewhere to continue his career.
