Most NHL fans recognize that their beloved teams usually play on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays. Occasionally, there may be a Sunday game, and the majority of games are held between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Recently, the NHL released the Oilers' new schedule for the 2023-2024 season, and people have started to notice two games scheduled for November 24th and February 19th at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
The NHL is making an effort to increase viewership by aligning the face of the league, Connor McDavid, with two major holidays in the United States.
Commissioner Gary Bettman has been focusing on his mandate to build and grow the game primarily in the United States since he assumed office in 1993. This scheduling decision reflects the NHL's ongoing commitment to expanding its fan base and increasing viewership.
As the NHL continues to develop its fan base and viewership, it is reasonable to anticipate more of these types of scheduling strategies in the future. By capitalizing on significant holidays and featuring prominent players like Connor McDavid, the NHL aims to generate momentum and engage a wider audience.
