It's been known for some time that one of the weak spots and Achilles heels of the Edmonton Oilers game has been their defense. Game after game NHL pundits, fans, and commentators have noticed the deficiencies within the Oilers' defense corps and have offered ideas and possible trade moves that could help this area.

One such idea came from Elliot Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that the Oilers would be interested in Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrinkov.

Would the Oilers be interested in paying for a defenseman who carries a 6' 3» height and 213 pounds in size and give the Oilers a more physical presence on the blue line?? It's certainly possible, especially where the Oilers feel they are in terms of their playoff potential success. A player of this caliber would carry a first-round draft pick or more in return.

Gavrinkov is in the final year of his deal in which he carries a $2.8 million cap hit. The 27-year-old defenseman has played 32 games this season, with 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points, and is a -3 with 18 penalty minutes.
