It appears that the Edmonton Oilers top rival the Calgary Flames are preparing a major trade as both teams could be on a collision course for a first round match up.

During the latest episode of Insider Trading on TSN, hockey insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the flames are highly interested in Buffalo Sabres centre Dylan Cozens.

Flames' appear to be retooling over a complete rebuild

Lebrun felt that the Flames would not spend top end assets to get short term rentals to make a push for the playoffs, but it appears they are highly interested in Cozens as he fits the design that general manager Craig Conroy is looking for.

Many teams have called about Cozens and the Flames would likely have to send
NHL roster or ready players along with prospects to make this deal work. Cozens is in the second of his seven-year deal with the Sabres which holds a cap hit of $7.1 million per year.

The Flames would need to send money out in order to obtain this deal as it's likely the Sabres would not retain any money.

Flames been busy with their retool as dust settles with Flyers deal

The Calgary Flames have been busy as they continue to retool and refine their team as this season has gone far better than they had expected. With the additions of Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, and a potential addition of Cozens or other players will give the Flames more help as a potential match up against the Edmonton Oilers could be inevitable.

"Everyone's made me feel welcome. Just gonna try and build my game as we go, kinda learn how the team plays and learn how I can integrate myself as best as possible." Morgan Frost speaks on settling in with the squad after his first two games.

It would be a match up that hasn't been seen for quite some time and would give the province of Alberta much buzz.

It's safe to say that Conroy isn't done in his deal making.
