Oilers looking to add another Zach Hyman-type player?
It's safe to say that after this postseason completes, the Oilers will be looking to upgrade their right-wing forwards. Having Zach Hyman and Kailer Yamamoto on the right side is fine, they will be looking to add some speed to help bolster the bottom 6.
One name that has emerged in the rumour mill is Capitals forward Connor Brown. Brown only managed to play four games this year and was cut down by an ACL injury. He was drafted in the 2012 entry draft in the sixth round, 156th pick overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
During his first four years with the Leafs, he averaged between 28 and 36 points this season and had 20 goal seasons. Then the Leafs traded him to the Ottawa Senators where he spent three more years and then moved to Washington for one season. What was noticeable about him is that his point totals were relatively consistent year through the year and even had a second twenty-goal season with the Senators.
Coming back from a major injury like this, it's highly likely that Connor Brown will need to take a one-year prove-it deal at a very low cost. With the cap issues that the Oilers will be facing, a player of Brown's calibre could fit the mould quite well because of his speed even though he had a knee injury. He's also known as a player to go into the dirty areas of the ice to get the puck out.
It would be certainly interesting if he does go to the Oilers.
