Oilers superstars address their imminent future with the Oilers
It's safe to say that Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are the best dynamic duos in the NHL. Both players seemed to have a keen sense of where the other is with their raw talent and playmaking abilities, both can put the Oilers on their backs and carry them through a regular season and a playoff run.
During today's exit interviews and locker clean out, both players expressed their desire to remain with the Oilers and have a keen interest in winning with this team.
Since their disappointing exit from this year's playoffs in the second round, questions have begun concerning their status and future with the Oilers as they are on the backside of their contracts.
Once the 2023-2024 season begins, McDavid will have two years remaining of his $12.5 million AAV. Draisaitl will have one year remaining where he stands at $8.5 million AAV.
Both men will be seeking significant raises when it comes time to re-sign, however, it's been announced that the salary cap will be rising rapidly after next season in the range of four to $5 million a year as the NHL and NHLPA come out of the COVID pandemic and all the financial troubles it produced.
As frustrating as it is that the Oilers playoff run is over, both men have given the Oilers Nation a season to remember.
