The Oilers showed more toughness in this year's edition.
Over the past few years, the Oilers have become a team that's been known for their skill, speed and having two of the best players on the planet in their offence. Other parts of the game have been suspect which include the goaltending and the construction of their defence core.
One aspect of their game has become more of a forefront in conversation these days when grading their ability to fight. This team seems to have developed an edge to itself and felt that many teams should understand that they will not take any crap from any other team as they inserted themselves towards their playoff run.
Several fights were talked about in the news where unexpected players decided to step in and settle a few scores against the opposition. One of the best fights this year was between
Justin Holl of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ryan Nugent Hopkins. RNH had seen enough after Holl decided to run over Oilers forward
Kailer Yamamoto.
As Holl and Nuge are unlikely fighters, It was even more surprising watching the fight in the first place. But that shows the testament of the Oilers showing the NHL that were not going to be pushed around and that they would defend themselves and their teammates as they continued to build their connections to one another.
