Oilers get a bizarre message from John Tavares for Stanley Cup Final
The Edmonton Oilers are getting support from all across Canada, even from an unlikely source like Leafs Captain John Tavares.
With his team long eliminated from the playoffs as usual, Tavares was attending a red carpet event where he gave his thoughts on the Cup Final, leaning towards supporting the Oilers.
Obviously being down 3-0 is very, very hard, especially against a team like Florida. But not only did they win, they won convincingly, played really well. So, obviously it's going to give them some belief. All you do is you go out there, play the game, above it everything you've got and see what happens.
You know the Leafs, we're not there. It doesn't matter to me, but I know a lot of people across Canada are really excited about having a Canadian team in the final and pulling for Edmonton, so we'll see what happens.

It's very odd and rare to see a player comment on the ongoing Cup Final with such enthusiasm, especially given the Leafs history of repeated playoff failure. Tavares came just short of fully endorsing the Oilers for the Stanley Cup, which would be a total oddity for any NHL player with no ties to another team.
