Jake DeBrusk is set to become a free agent this offseason, and contract talks with Boston have not been productive so far. DeBrusk has an obvious connection to Edmonton with his father Louie DeBrusk, and the Oilers have long been interested in acquiring him. This offseason could be their chance, and perhaps DeBrusk can be the winger the Oilers have searching for to play with Leon Draisaitl. Along with the Oilers, the Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly interested in DeBrusk.
In addition, the Oilers may look to be the team to land Linus Ullmark in a trade with Boston. The 30 year old Vezina Trophy winner has been a star calibre goalie, but the Bruins are moving forward with Jeremy Swayman as their starter, and making Ullmark available for trade. If the Oilers wish to insulate Skinner with a goaltender with pedigree, it could turn the Oilers crease into a serious strength instead of a question mark.
Ullmark possess a 16 team no-trade clause which could potentially influence the outcome of a trade, but hopefully Ullmark would see an opportunity to win and a passionate fanbase in Edmonton, and be open to potential trade. Oilers fans have already been excited by the prospect of trading for Ullmark, now the front office needs to make it a reality.
