Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine is reportedly will miss significant time after sustaining a lower body injury in preseason.

According to Steve Kouleas or Sirius XM NHL, Laine will miss the entire upcoming season.

In the Habs last preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Laine got in a horrible looking knee on knee collision with Cedric Pare. Laine's leg blew out sideways in awkward fashion, and he had to be helped off the ice clearly in pain. Earlier today, Laine was spotted at Habs practice limping and using crutches to move around.

It's truly disastrous that Laine will miss the entire season after looking for a fresh start with the Montreal Canadiens. Laine played only 18 games last season after coming out of the Player Assistance Program with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and requested a trade to try to revive his career. Laine undoubtedly has raw offensive talent that lead to him scoring 80 goals in his first two years. Now, Laine hasn't eclipsed 30 goals in the last six years and rarely has played a full season.

Dr. Harjas Grewal of UBC recently analyzed the video of the Laine injury, and did say that a critical ACL injury was possible that could end Laine's season. Unfortunately, Laine and the Habs got the worst possible diagnosis.

Laine is still only 26 years old and under contract for the next two seasons at $8.7M. It's heartbreaking that he won't even get to play in his first season as a Canadien trying to get his fresh start, but Habs fans and hockey fans will still be behind him and rooting for his return next year.
