Shea Theodore will not return. Teams cannot add players now. So, if he's out longer than this game (hopefully not), he cannot be replaced. After the game, Coach Jon Cooper confirmed Theodore will miss the entire tournament.
Friedman explains during the second intermission that all teams in this tournament are unable to call any players better not on the roster.
The rosters are now set and the team will need to rely on their reserve defensemen who will likely be Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim To replace Theodore.
Many fans felt that there was a possibility that other players like Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard would be able to enter the tournament due to the injury. This appears not the case.
According to the rules all teams were allowed to make changes to their rosters prior to the start of the tournament which allowed Los Angeles Kings defenseman drew Doughty to be named on the roster after Alex Pietrangelo chose to opt out of the tournament.
This roster for Team Canada is one of the deepest the country has ever assembled in world tournament play. There are many players who were omitted from this roster including Bouchard who could have easily made this teen but was chosen not to by Team Canada general manager Don Sweeney.
Evan Bouchard fourth in NHL for puck possession, and has 5th lowest rate of turnovers to possession time. This is the kind of difficult pass he regularly makes.
This tournament also will give a preview of what the roster could look like when Canada and the rest of the hockey nations will be able to compete for the Olympics in 2026 in Milan Italy.
Oilers fans along with the rest of Canada can sit back and enjoy the tournament which will continue from February 12 till February 20th where the final game will be played in Boston MA.
