Kurtis has been a prominent Leafs fan online for a few years now, creating videos from his basement that is fully decked out with Maple Leafs memorabilia. Kurtis' videos often showed him enjoying games with his Leafs gear and drinking beer, but he's now alleging that the team has delivered him a cease and desist order.
In a video posted this morning, Kurtis explained that the cease and desist order was filed because he was drinking a beer that was different from the team sponsor. The Leafs and their beer sponsor, Molson, don't want any other beer appearing in a video with a Leafs logo.
It seems like a shocking and abhorrent way for the Maple Leafs to treat a fan who only shows them organic support, and creates content to further their brand. Kurtis was beloved by many hockey fans, not just Leafa fans, who are taking to social media to support Kurtis.
One fan pointed out the Kurtis has a custom beer company for himself that uses the Leafs colours, which could be the real cause of the cease and desist.
It's really just astounding that the Maple Leafs would seemingly target a beloved fan online with legal action. Judging by the fan outrage over the situation, it definitely won't be the last the Leafs hear of this.
