In the wake of the Dadonov disaster, new Senators owner Michael Andlauer has appointed Staios interim general manager.
From 1995-2012, Staios played as a depth winger for six different NHL teams, scoring 220 points in 1,000 games.
Having served as a player development advisor for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Staios would then assume the role of bench coach after Randy Carlyle was sacked.
It isn't their first time working together, as he was hired by Andlauer to serve as president of the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2015.
In addition to his presidential duties, he will serve as the team's general manager through 2021-2022. He won the Jim Gregory Award for the top manager in the OHL during his final season with the team.
Pierre Dorion, spent 8 years with the Ottawa Senators as the de facto #1 since Eugene Melnyk passed away in March 2022. The team has failed to make the playoffs since 2016-2017, since then it's been an endless rebuild.
Upon taking the job, Staios will stabilize the team during the interim and manage the cap wisely in the case of Shane Pinto.
After the suspension is complete, Andlauer and Staios will look for a permanent general manager.
A name that is already popping up in rumors is former Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins GM: Peter Chiarelli.
