A trade proposal has surfaced between the Edmonton Oilers and the Chicago Blackhawks Involving Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones.

«I think things are moving forward [in Chicago], but my timeline might be different from Kyle and Norm's and the Blackhawks»

It was reported earlier this year that the Oilers were interested in acquiring Jones as the Blackhawks season appeared to be in peril and we're prepared to sell off more of their assets.

Trade would see Matthew Savoie involved in this proposal

According to Josh Wegman of the score, the proposal would see Jones coming to the Oilers in exchange for Jeff Skinner, Matthew Savoie and a 2025 second round pick via the St Louis Blues. The proposal could also see a 1.5-million-dollar retention by the Blackhawks which would put Jones at an $8 million cap hit.
As the Oilers continue their five-game road trip, they decided to recall Savoie to the Oilers as they wish to evaluate his readiness for NHL play and potentially show him off to other teams including the Blackhawks.
One aspect of this trade proposal that seems far fetched is that Jones has had a tough past few years with the Blackhawks and holds an heavy cap hit which has been a hallmark issue for the Oilers as Darnell nurse also holds a similar cap it with much scrutiny.

Uncertainty may be too much for this trade to occur

General manager Stan Bowman who holds heavy ties to the Blackhawks would certainly understand what kind of player Seth Jones would be and it remains to be seen if he wants to pull off this deal.'
The uncertainty surrounding Jones, his play and the cap constraints that the Oilers are already facing may prove too much for this deal to take place even if Jones may be the player they're looking for.
Bowman has explained that the Oilers also need secondary scoring especially on their bottom six which may be the route they will take rather than a very expensive defenseman.
Other cap uncertainty will continue to float around the Oilers when Evander Kane returns from the lineup which could be sooner than April.
In the end, this trade proposal is certainly a talking point but it's far from reality at this point.
