After a tough start in the AHL, Campbell has completely turned his play around in the last stretch. Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has pointed out that Campbell has an incredible .935 save percentage in his last seven games.
Scaling back to his 17 total starts in the AHL this year, his results are less impressive with a 2.90 GAA and .909 save percentage, but still decent. Of course, because of his massive contract of $5M for the next four years, the Oilers are still paying close attention to Campbell. This now sustained stretch of quality play bodes extremely well for him earning another shot in the NHL, whether that's making a comeback with Oilers, or to increase his trade value and earn a shot somewhere else.
Recently, reports have surfaced that the Oilers may be once again considering the possibility of trading Campbell, because the team was able to acquire an impact player in Corey Perry for free. This saves the Oilers assets which they could use to pay another team to take Campbell's contract. Now that he's playing much better, perhaps the price comes down for another team to take Campbell.
Regardless, it's a positive development for everyone involved that Campbell has been able to find his game and sustain it in the last stretch. If this success keeps up, it may force a move for Campbell to be recalled to the NHL, or the Oilers becoming more aggressive in trying to trade him.
