On Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Edmonton Oilers played well enough to extend their winning streak to nine games, but ended up surrendering a lead in the third period, and losing the game 7-3.

The Oilers recorded a team-record of 57 shots on goal against Andrei Vasilevskiy, but he stood tall and only allowed four goals. On the other hand, Stuart Skinner had a poor performance, and lost the game with a save percentage of .773.

Instead of looking from a bounce-back performance from Skinner, Oilers' head coach Kris Knoblauch is making a bold decision by turning to the team's temporary backup, Calvin Pickard to start tonight's game against the Florida Panthers.

Pickard impressed in his last start against the powerhouse New Jersey Devils, earning the win and stopping 26 out of 27 shots. Tonight, himself and the Oilers will face another big test in the Panthers, who have a prominent offence and can score at the rate of the Oilers. We'll see if Knoblauch has made the right decision, and if the Oilers can steal another win with their rocky goaltending situation overall.
