However, that is far from the truth, and the team has fallen flat on its face. As the 20th game of the season passes, the silly season begins, where fans, pundits, reporters, and anyone who loves the game of hockey begins to craft their trade rumours in the hope of helping the team.

The latest and greatest rumour comes from Larry Brooks, a well-known NHL reporter. He proposed a wild and preposterous trade rumour suggesting that the Edmonton Oilers would be willing to move Connor McDavid to the New York Islanders to bolster their goaltending.

The proposed trade would involve McDavid, Evan Bouchard, along with either Skinner or Calvin Pickard, going to the New York Islanders in exchange for Ilya Sorokin and Mathew Barzal.

Such a trade rumour certainly fits the silly season category, as this exchange would cause an uproar across the league, leading to questions about its possibility.

As much as the silly season is fun to talk about and speculate, in my view, there's no way I see the Edmonton Oilers parting ways with Connor McDavid unless he flat-out asks for a trade request or walks away in unrestricted free agency.
