In a new post to Instagram today, McDavid teased a new personal endeavour off the ice. McDavid will be involved in a larger announcement on October 7th for some sort of kitchen event.
McDavid's post is deliberately vague, but it looks like he will be involved in something culinary in the near future. It could be plenty of things: an appearance on a cooking show, or opening his own restaurant with his wife Lauren. His cooking jacket seems to say «McDavid's», implying that Lauren is probably involved.
Whatever McDavid decides to pick up off the ice, a good portion of Oilers fans will be wanting to see. Who knows? If McDavid is cooking like he plays hockey, he'll be a Gordon Ramsay level chef right off the bat. At the very least, this image of McDavid in the chef's coat will be meme material for a long, long while.
Young Blackhawks centreman Connor Bedard also posted a similar teaser for October 7th, but with him behind a workbench. Perhaps it's a league-wide event.
This season is undoubtedly the biggest yet in McDavid's career. The Oilers are coming off a year where they were just one game short of the Stanley Cup, and McDavid always seems to strike back greater than he was the year before. He may be appearing on a cooking event now, but he's singularly focused on winning the Stanley Cup this year. He had even asked coach Knoblauch to play every remaining preseason game to get up to speed.
The Oilers regular season begins on October 9th at home against the Winnipeg Jets. It's a long grind back to the Cup Final, and the Oilers are locked in to begin it.
