The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for their final game against the Colorado Abalanche before the NHL breaks for the 4 Nations Faceoff, and captain Connor McDavid called on his teammates to step it up.

Earlier today, Coach Knoblauch unveiled the expected lineup at practice, continuing to roll with the new line combinations that debuted in their game against Chicago.

Oilers captain Connor McDavid calls on teammates to be better in final matchup before break

Speaking to the media before today's game, Connor McDavid said the Oilers haven't been playing their best hockey as of late, and called on his teammates to bring more emotion tonight.

I think we haven't had a great stretch of hockey. I know we've found ways to win games, but it hasn't been our best We're just lacking a little bit in terms of maybe some energy, some emotion, there hasn't been much emotion in these games. Try to gear up for a big one gotta find a way to get a win here tonight.

It's surprising to hear the Captain come out and demand more of his team, specifically calling out a lack of emotion when the team has been so successful.

However, he is right, and the Oilers haven't played their best hockey lately - evident by too close of a game against the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks.

Yesterday, Coach Knoblauch admitted that the Oilers have been recently affected by an illness spreading through the room.

In tonight's game on home ice and the final matchup before an extended break for the Four Nations Faceoff, it's important the Oilers enter the break on a positive note and do it in front of the fans.

It's good to see McDavid have the leadership to demand more from the team, even when it seems all is going well for them.
