Oilers analyst believes top prospect Matthew Savoie could be dealt in blockbuster trade
The Edmonton Oilers are in a position to go all-in for a trade this season to win the Stanley Cup, and one analyst believes it may take trading Matthew Savoie to sway another team.
The Oilers don't have many assets to deal in a trade this season, and if they do want to land an elite player in trade, it may take their best possible piece in Savoie.

Oilers analyst Allan Mitchell speculated that in a major trade to improve the team, other teams will be asking for Matthew Savoie as the primary return.

It would be tough to depart with Matthew Savoie after he's developed nicely within the Oilers organization this season, but it could be worth it for the right trade. Really, it would essentially be flipping Ryan McLeod for a top rental player.
At the same time, there's only a handful of players that trading Savoie would be worth it for, a star level defenceman or goalie being the positions that would make the most sense.
It'd be rare that those players would be available, and it may not make sense for a rental. Perhaps an elite goalie, or top two defender like Juuse Saros or Noah Dobson.
Matthew Savoie is a bona-fide blue chip prospect, selected 9th overall in the 2022 draft. In 40 AHL games this year, he's scored 31 points and has noticeably taken a step in his first full professional year.
It would sting for the Oilers to give him up, but for a trade to win the Stanley Cup, anything would be worth it.
