During the latest episode of Oilers nation every day, former Edmonton Oilers alumni Jason Demers thanks New York Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson is the missing defensemen that would put the Oilers over the top.
Could the Oilers make a splash for Noah Dobson? @jasondemers5 seems to think Edmonton should be all over it!
He explains that the Oilers have a chance to land another great puck moving defenseman who is a right-handed shot as it appears no adoption may be available for trade as Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello appears not ready to sign him long term.
Dobson a restricted free agent at the end of this season
Demers feels the Oilers should take a chance on Dobson as he compares them in where they are for their Stanley Cup run to the Vegas golden Knights who are not afraid to make a deal or be over the cap by many dollars and always have enough players to help put them in contention for a Stanley Cup.
If it's really about Noah Dobson, every team should try to acquire him. Dobson just had an elite season last year. He's still only 25 years old. I just can't imagine that Lamoriello would've traded his best asset among defensemen. Would be crazy!
Dobson was drafted by the Islanders back in 2018, first round, 12 overall. Standing at six foot 4 and 200 lbs the 25-year-old defenseman who is a right-handed shot is exactly what the Oilers need for rounding out their top four defense.
Noah Dobson is a really good hockey player
He has played 46 games this year, scoring six goals with 18 assists for 24 points and has 16 penalty minutes. He also plays on average 24 minutes in one second of ice time per game and if on the Oilers would have a reduction in ice time but more balanced as the team has better defence all around.
Demers thinks this would be the answer for rounding out the Oilers
Finally, Demers thinks adding a player of dobsons caliber would solidify the Oilers for years to come and would also remove the need for a goaltender as the remaining defenseman on the team would be able to hold down the blueline.
Adding him will certainly cost the Oilers some of their youth and at least the first-round pick. The benefit of this trade is that Dobson is 25 years old, and he would have a long career with the Oilers and would be worth giving up that kind of mortgage.
