Edmonton Oilers Could Consider Trade for Sabres Defenceman Under Contract for 6 Years
The Buffalo Sabres franchise has hit rock bottom as Sabres owner Terry Pegula met with the team and general manager Kevyn Adams prior to their game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Trade rumors have been swirling around the team for the past several weeks as the Sabres cannot seem to find a way to win any games or find any consistency in how they play. Many felt that the return of longtime Sabres coach Lindy Ruff could make the difference.
It hasn't. Several teams including the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to the Sabres in trade rumors as the Oilers have been shopping around the league for a defenseman who could fill in their top four role.
The Oilers and the Sabres have had trade relations over the summer after the Oilers sent Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio to the Sabres in exchange for rookie forward Matthew Savoie. Several names have appeared as potential trade targets including Henri Jokiharju and Mattias Samuelsson.
Some pundits have taken to the X platform and expressed their what to see either player be common Edmonton Oilers as they feel that they would help the team greatly and shore up their defence.
Others like Frank Seravalli of the daily faceoff has poured cold water on the idea of a major trade rumors with the Sabres as he reveals Pegula feel the answer is within the organization and the dressing room.
Of course, that could all be talk as owners can change their minds at any point and if the team continues to slide and the embarrassment continues to rise ownership tends to act quickly.
It remains to be seen on whether the Oilers can make a deal with the Sabres for one of their defensemen as every good general manager is always open for business and willing to listen at any offer since the Oilers have several prospects and lots of draft capital available.
The Oilers are in a win now mode looking to add a player on their defence will go a long way in helping their chances to win.
