Edmonton Oilers fan favourite prospect given league award in the AHL
The Edmonton Oilers organization received good news that Bakersfield Condors left winger James Hamblin received the player of the week in the AHL.
Hamblin had a great weekend against the Chicago Wolves as he had five points which translated to three goals and two assists in two games and was a + 3 with 13 shots. Through 21 games played, he has nine goals 11 assists for 20 points, and he is also a + 9 which puts him third on the team.
Hamblin story still touches many with the passing of his mother
Hamblin has been with the Edmonton organization for his entire professional career as he is an undrafted player. Beginning in 2020 he had signed with the Bakersfield Condors.
Hamblin became well known as he recorded his first goal when he was with the Oilers back on November 18th 2023.
He pointed to the sky and said «that's for you mom» as his mother Gina had passed away in September of 2017 from cancer. The video went viral around the sport world, and it was quite the moment to watch.
Hamblin hopes to return to the Oilers
His NHL career has been brief as he has only played 41 games with the Oilers and has registered two goals with one assist for three points and along with two penalty minutes.
With the Oilers deep in talent on the parent club and many in the Bakersfield locker room, it might be difficult for Hamblin to get back to the NHL anytime soon.

The NHL is currently in a two week break where the Condors and Hamblin are looking to extend a six-game points streak as they will take on Tucson on Tuesday and then San Jose on Saturday at 7:00 PM local time.
